Hi, this is Dr. Robert Holland from Castleton Orthodontics. Today I am speaking about whether putting on braces hurts. During your appointment to put on your braces, the orthodontic assistants will make your teeth very dry. The dryer your teeth are the better, because the braces stick best when teeth are dry. This process for putting on braces should not be uncomfortable, and we will make sure and rinse off your teeth to rehydrate them once we are done.
Once your braces are placed, you will experience some discomfort for 72 hours. After the 72 hour mark, this soreness should start to subside. We highly recommend that you take ibuprofen during this initial stage of discomfort in order to make sure you stay comfortable.
